Mariel Bernarte is the founder of Makihalo, a Filipino food company she started in 2022 in Brecksville, Ohio. What began with her signature Silvanas—a beloved Filipino dessert—has since grown into shelf-stable, Filipino-inspired products that make it easy for anyone to enjoy the bold, comforting flavors of the Philippines. Driven by a deep love for her heritage and a passion for sharing delicious, nostalgic foods, Mariel is on a mission to bring a taste of home to new audiences and celebrate Filipino culture through every bite.
